Veit Benedikt Hertenstein - viola
Veit Benedikt Hertenstein, born in Augsburg in 1985, received his lessons in violin and piano at the age of 5. In 2001 he definitively changed his focus of study to the viola. He received the Master of artes with distinction in 2007 from the Academy of Music in Zurich, where he studied under the guidance of Prof. Nicolas Corti (Amatiquartett). Since February 2007 he is pursuing his studies in the solist diploma program at the Conservatoire de Musique with Prof. Nobuko Imai.
He has won several times first laureate of the National German Competition for young artists "Jugend musiziert" and has benefited from scholarships of the foundation "Jürgen-Ponto" and the "Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben" Hamburg. He won first prizes at the Kiwanis competition in Zurich (2004), the Peter-Pirazzi Competition in Frankfurt (2005), the Koeckert-Competition (2006) and the 13th National Instrumental Fondation/Hamburg 2005 as well, where he received a viola made by Gianbattista Ceruti (Cremona, 1798). In 2006 he was awarded the second prize at the Rahn-Competition in Zurich and the Special Bach Award at the Lionel Tertis Competition in England. In June 2007, he was top prizewinner at the Orpheus-Competition/Zurich and was thus awarded a special prize allowing him to record his debut CD with EURO-Classics. As first prize winner of the "Migros Kulturprozent" and "Kiefer Hablitzel" Fondation, he currently holds scholarships for 2008. Veit has taken part in masterclasses given by Hatto Beyerle, Barbara Westphal, Hariolf Schlichtig, Gérard Caussé, Krzysztof Penderecki, Nobuko Imai and Seiji Ozawa. He has performed at prestigious festivals such as Scheswig-Holstein-Festival and Instrumenta-Festival in Oaxaca/Mexico. He often works with the „Orchestre de la Suisse Romande" in Geneva and the "hr-Sinfonieorchester" in Frankfurt.
