Slovakia Provides More Humanitarian Aid to Tajikistan

The Slovak Republic provided nearly ten tons of winter clothing and medication in the second phase of material assistance to the people of Tajikistan, hit by a natural disaster earlier this year. The Foreign Affairs Ministry’s press department informed that Slovakia’s Ambassador to Tajikistan Jozef Macisak handed over the delivery in Tashkent to local authorities on November 12th. In the first phase of humanitarian assistance at the end of May, Slovakia delivered a humanitarian consignment worth nearly €200,000 to Tajikistan, including large-capacity field tents with appliances, mobile electric power generators and medication. In total, the consignment including the transportation cost €220,000. Tajikistan asked for help following damages caused by heavy rains and subsequent mudslides in April and May. The natural disaster completely destroyed two hundred houses; dozens more were damaged. Approximately 10,000 people have been left homeless. The rains damaged 160 km of roads and forty bridges, as well as energy infrastructure, the Slovak Foreign Affairs Ministry informed.
