Slovak Aid to Support Schooling Project for Afghan Women

The Slovak non-profit civic association People in Peril is to run a project in Afghanistan to support social and economic development in poor rural communities in Kabul as well as in the province of Parwan via active involvement of women. The project entitled Social and Economic Rural Development in Afghanistan that received support from Slovak Aid of nearly €149,000 is to run between January 2010 and November 2011. Four hundred women are to take part in training programs aimed at improving the effectiveness of local farm production, nutrition and health of households participating in the project. Another objective is to support gender equality on a community level. The association is cooperating in the project with Afghan Women Resource Center organization.

Final Agreement on the Consolidation Package is Still not Approved

The final form of an ambitious package of fiscal consolidation for the next year amounting to EUR 1.7 billion remains elusive even after Tuesday’s negotiations of leaders of four centre-right governing coalition parties. The question remains open of a possible increase in the value-added tax rate, which was mentioned as one of the alternatives. Prime Minister Iveta Radicova wants to thoroughly contemplate and calculate all the possible alternatives before she gives a definite answer.
